The Award was part of Coast magazine’s annual competition, with readers selecting the 186-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path as their favourite long-distance route. The Path, which provides one of the best ways of taking in the spectacular scenery of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, was the first National Trail in Wales and lies almost entirely within the National Park.
Charles Mathieson, Head of Recreation and Tourism for the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, collected the award and said: “The Coast Path is one of the key foundations of tourism in Pembrokeshire and makes a significant contribution to the county’s economy.“This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the Path and it’s wonderful to have national recognition for this fabulous resource and to know that it is still valued 40 years on.“We’re working hard to ensure that the Path is accessible for everyone, with a number of stretches now stile-free, including 42 miles between Pembroke Dock and Nolton Haven and 23 miles from Newgale to Penberi. In fact, we’ve removed over 400 stiles from the Path in the past ten years.“We know that the Path attracts over 900,000 user days each year, providing a fantastic resource for local residents, and attracting walkers from around the world.”Also present to collect the Award was Jo Ronald, Access Policy Officer for the Countryside Council for Wales, who said: "It’s great to have the support of the readers of Coast Magazine and to know that the investment made in the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail is appreciated and enjoyed by many people".Coast Joules Award Coast Path Award presented to Charles Mathieson, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Jo Ronald, Countryside Council for Wales by Tom Joule, BBC presenter Julia Bradbury and Coast  Editor Clare Gogerty.
