Wales, and the rest of the UK has set a target to reach net zero by 2050. But what does that mean for us in Pembrokeshire? Put simply, we reach net zero when the amount of carbon dioxide we produce is no more than the amount we take away.

Like the rest of the UK, Wales is currently releasing too many greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere. We know that by far the biggest human cause of greenhouse gases is energy production – energy for industry, energy used to heat our homes and buildings, and the energy we use to power our vehicles.

Switching to cleaner forms of energy like wind, tidal and wave, can help us reach net zero, and Pembrokeshire has an important part to play in the transition. The Celtic Sea, off the coast of Wales, has the potential to power millions of homes through floating offshore wind farms, and their development will create thousands of new jobs for people in the area. Working alongside existing industries, we face a huge opportunity to become pioneers of renewable energy, and trailblazers in technology. Our ports are preparing; upgrading and expanding, and the proposed Celtic Freeport will make it easier for businesses to invest and practically support the floating offshore wind industry.
