Empowering Communities in Pembrokeshire’s Marine Renewable Energy Future
The Marine Energy Engagement Plan (MEEP) is an initiative designed to inform, involve, and inspire local communities about marine renewable energy (MRE) developments in the region. As the Celtic Sea emerges as a hub for floating offshore wind and other MRE on the rise in Wales, MEEP is working to put Pembrokeshire’s residents at the heart of this transition.
Our Approach
MEEP focuses on:
- Education: Providing accessible information about MRE technologies and their potential impacts.
- Engagement: Facilitating dialogues between communities, developers, and policymakers.
- Empowerment: Equipping individuals and groups with the tools to participate actively in MRE discussions and decisions.
Through events, workshops and social media, MEEP has reached over 65,000 people, with the aim of building a well-informed and proactive community ready to embrace sustainable energy solutions.
This is only the start of the conversation. We are determined to support communities in Pembrokeshire be heard in discussions about marine renewable energy with developers, government and other stakeholders.
MEEP began with a series of workshops in 2023,you can access the reports below:
MEEP Communications Toolkit
To support these efforts, we’ve developed the MEEP Communications Toolkit to:
- Educate: Offering clear explanations of marine renewable technologies and their implications with a suite of digital and print resources, websites and videos.
- Encourage Engagement: Providing strategies to involve diverse community groups in meaningful conversations.
- Highlight Impacts: Outlining the benefits and challenges of MRE, including job creation, climate change mitigation, and community development.
- Build a Shared Vision: Aligning local initiatives with broader sustainability goals.
What’s Inside the Toolkit?
- Introductory Video: A step-by-step guide to navigating and utilising the toolkit effectively.
- Resource Materials: Presentations, flyers, and interactive content tailored for various audiences.
- FAQs: Answers to common questions about MRE and community engagement.
- Feedback Mechanism: A platform to share your experiences and suggestions, ensuring the toolkit evolves with community needs.
Whether you’re a teacher, community leader, business, or developer, the toolkit offers valuable insights and practical tools to engage with Pembrokeshire’s marine energy journey.
