Pembrokeshire is seeing some exciting new developments in the marine renewable energy (MRE) sector, with floating offshore wind turbines to be developed in the Celtic Sea and The Port of Milford Haven earning freeport status. In 2023, Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum (PCF) looked at the best ways to engage communities, businesses and educational establishments in the developments.

Marine Energy Engagement (MEEP) 2023

PCF brought together stakeholders from the community, education, local authorities, conservation organisations, wildlife experts, The Crown Estate, and MRE companies to discuss how best to ensure that communities in Pembrokeshire are aware of, and able to take advantage of the many opportunities of MRE, and to further understand the challenges ahead.

We’re thankful for organisations and individuals who were happy to share their engagement experiences and feed into a plan to share the developments with community members.

Facilitation for the events was done by Dafydd Thomas from the Wellbeing Planner. He brought together participants’ ideas and concerns into a report, with recommended next steps.

MEEP 2024

Following the insightful (MEEP) report produced in May 2023, we are now implementing the report’s recommendations. This year, our focus will be on developing a comprehensive communication toolkit. This toolkit is designed to enhance engagement with communities regarding MRE, ensuring transparent, inclusive, and effective communication.
