We are pleased to reveal the Sector Locational Guidance for Aquaculture has now also been published by the Welsh Government and can be viewed here: (Sector locational guidance: aquaculture | GOV.WALES).
Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum were involved in developing the guidance, along with Atkins and Venn Associates, in collaboration with industry representatives, regulators and environmental specialists.
The guidance aims to assist planning for future sector development. It brings together interpreted evidence to describe opportunities and natural resources of potential interest. It also signposts considerations (e.g. around infrastructure or environmental sensitivities), with potential to cause risk or complexity for project development and consenting. The SLG also describes how aquaclture might interact with other sectors and activities within the marine area, signposting potential for co-existence and, also, potential conflicts.
Jetske Germing, PCF Managing Director, said “The Sector Locational Guidance provides useful and important information for this developing sector. The SLG will now feed into the Strategic Resource Areas for the sector. As a Coastal Forum, we have signposted the consultants to a range of stakeholders to engage with to build on these. If you would like to feed in, we recommend attending the workshops in relation to the Aquaculture Bivalve sector on Tuesday 21 June, and the Aquaculture Seaweed sector on Thursday 23 June 2022.”
